Oscar Persons has more than 40 years experience in complex business litigation, state and federal, in trial and appellate courts, involving individual and class action matters and investigations.
His experience includes being counsel for respondent in the 2008 United States Supreme Court decision in Stoneridge Investment Partners vs. Scientific Atlanta, 128 S. Ct. 761, where the Supreme Court held against private “scheme liability” claims under the federal securities laws. Public commentators call it the most important Supreme Court business decision in a decade.

Oscar is active in Georgia Republican affairs and has been General Counsel for the Georgia Republican Party and Chair of various United States Senate and Presidential Campaigns in Georgia. He was a member of the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts for the Kennedy Center, appointed by President George W. Bush. He served as an Officer on a Navy Destroyer. He has been active in Georgia Tech affairs, where he was President of the Student Body.
In 2009 and 2010, he was named as a leading practitioner in Litigation: General Commercial practice area by the highly regarded Chambers USA, a legal directory featuring client-led intelligence on America’s leading lawyers for business. Oscar has been also listed in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America since 2005 in the areas of Bet-the Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, and Corporate Governance and Compliance Law. In addition, he is listed as a litigation Best Lawyer in Corporate Counsel and in the 2010 Georgia Super Lawyers.
Oscar received his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech in 1960. He received his law degree from Emory University School of Law in 1967, where he was a member of the Journal of Public Law and the Bryan Honor Society.
