The South Carolina legislature enacted the SC License Tax Standardization Act in September 2020 to standardize business license requirements throughout South Carolina. Information about changes to Town of Hilton Head business license requirements are outlined below.
What are the requirements?
Effective January 1, 2022, all Town of Hilton Head property owners who rent one unit or a home are required to hold a current, active business license. Previously, Town of Hilton Head property owners were required to hold a current, active business license only if the property owner rented more than one unit or home.
What does it cost?
Your business license class is determined by your North American Industry Classification Code (NAICS Code). Business license rates are determined by the standard business license class schedule adopted by the SC Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office every odd-numbered year. Town Council establishes the business license rates for the class schedules. These rates will be available on the
Town’s website.
How to apply?
You will need to submit a business license application to Revenue Services to obtain a business license. The application can be sent by email to
RS@hiltonheadislandsc.gov or mailed to the Town of Hilton Head Island website at 1 Town Center Court, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928.
If I have a current business license do I need to make any changes?
No, the Town of Hilton Head will update your current business license in conformity with the new law.
