Overview

Elizabeth has more than 20 years of experience in advising clients on commercial litigation, cybersecurity, and data privacy matters. As Co-Chair of Burr & Forman’s Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Team, she counsels clients on data privacy law compliance, data breach response and investigations, breach notification, privacy programs, electronic contracts, and related litigation.

Elizabeth focuses her practice on the combined areas of commercial litigation and all areas of cybersecurity and privacy law, as these areas become increasingly intertwined and overlapping. She advises clients on mitigating and responding to cybersecurity data breaches and incidents, as well as protecting personal data. She helps clients anticipate the full scope of a responding to data breaches, including addressing ransomware demands, cybersecurity forensic vendors, insurance, reporting obligations to government agencies, and legal notifications to individuals. Elizabeth also advises on data privacy laws as they continue to emerge and helps companies establish globally-compliant privacy programs pursuant to various federal, state, and international laws, including CCPA/CPRA and GDPR.

Elizabeth holds both a CIPP/US certification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional and a CIPM/IAPP certification as a Certified Information Privacy Manager and represents companies of varying sizes and industry sectors in cybersecurity matters.

Elizabeth’s litigation practice includes matters involving technology and software development, financial and investment institutions, health care, intellectual property, employment, municipalities, construction and other areas. She has tried dozens of cases in federal and state courts, including jury and non-jury trials, as well as arbitrations.
