Mobile broadband–the wireless industry’s marketing term for technology that allows devices to connect to the Internet wirelessly using cellular networks–is moving toward the technology’s fifth generation, also known as 5G.

During mobile broadband’s less than 40 years of history, its technology has evolved from the 1980’s era of 1G analog telecommunications, to the 1990’s era of 2G digital phone calls and SMS text messages, to the early 2000’s era of 3G high-speed Internet and multi-media applications, to our current era of 4G and 4G LTE2 technology’s improved download/upload speeds, reduced latency (i.e., lag time) and crystal clear voice calls.
