In an article published on Nov. 20, 2015, Douglas Gartenlaub provides insight on Florida's Sport Development Statute, which was signed into law by Florida Gov. Rick Scott in June 2014. With the abundance of sports teams based in Florida, this statute offers funding for "the proposed construction, reconstruction, renovation, or improvement of a facility or the proposed acquisition of land to construct a new facility and construction improvements for state-owned land necessary for the efficient use of the facility." However, a delay in decisions on funding for initial applicants has caused the City of Orlando to pursue other funding options, and newly introduced obstacles for future applicants may motivate other sports entities to follow Orlando's example.
