Burr's Labor Team Assists Manufacturer in Major Union Election Victory
Burr & Forman LLP announces that its Birmingham Labor team won another big victory for a large manufacturer in Northwest Alabama on June 13, 2018 during a heated union election. The "SMART" Union (International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers) started a campaign at this manufacturer in late 2017. Burr's Birmingham-based Labor team was hired to manage the company's response a few days after the union arrived.
A petition for an election was filed in early May, 2018, supported by a minimum of 30% of the workforce. At the outset, the momentum was heavily against the Company. The election was held on June 13, 2018, with a resounding defeat for the union. The final vote was 520 to 189: employees rejected the union by an overwhelming 73%.
The seasoned Labor team included partners Marcel L. Debruge, John J. Coleman III, Ronald W. Flowers, J. Trent Scofield, and associate Meryl Cowan.
Burr's Labor team focuses on sophisticated traditional labor law matters.
