Birmingham Partner Angie Smith Selected to Serve on Alabama State Bar's Pro Bono Committee
Burr’s Angie Smith has been selected to serve on the Alabama State Bar’s Pro Bono and Public Service Committee. The Committee promotes access to justice through the governance and management of the Volunteer Lawyers Program, primarily by promoting the growth of the program throughout all areas of the state, including recruiting and recognizing volunteers.
Members of the Pro Bono Committee promote various programs and projects, especially throughout local and circuit bar associations, helping to improve access to justice for citizens across the state. The committee also coordinates its efforts with other task forces, committees, and sections within the ASB in order to meet their goals.
Angie is a Partner in the firm's Health Care Industry Group where she devotes her practice to defending health care providers against medical malpractice claims as well as defending health care providers in false claims litigation. In addition to her health care litigation practice, Angie assists health care providers with navigating federal and state laws directly impacting the health care industry, including but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”), the state of Alabama’s certificate of need laws, and Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
