Burr & Forman Announces Addition of Charles Marshall as Chief Operating Officer
January 23, 2025 – Burr & Forman is pleased to announce that Charles Marshall will join the firm as Chief Operating Officer on March 1, 2025. An established and respected leader in the legal, academic, and government sectors, Charles will be a key member of Burr & Forman’s executive management team. He will collaborate closely with the firm’s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Committee to drive the firm’s growth and will oversee performance management, firm operations, client service, and senior management team initiatives.

Before joining Burr & Forman, Charles served as the Vice Chancellor and General Counsel at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In this role, he oversaw all legal services for the Chancellor, the Board of Trustees, 15 schools, and all administrative departments. The scope of his executive oversight included managing the University’s litigation portfolio, board governance, enterprise and regulatory risk management, and emerging legal issues around college athletics and UNC's academic medical center.

Earlier in his career, Charles served as a longtime partner and senior leader at Brooks Pierce law firm in North Carolina, where he provided counsel on governance, constitutional law, campaign finance law, regulatory compliance, and public policy. He has experience across all three branches of government and is recognized by Best Lawyers in America and North Carolina Super Lawyers.
Charles graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned his J.D., with honors, from the School of Law and his B.A., with Distinction in History and Political Science, from the College of Arts and Sciences.
