Burr & Forman Boosts Banking and Real Estate Practice in Mobile
Burr & Forman LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Robert C. Matthews as Counsel in the firm's Mobile office, and as a member of the Banking and Real Estate practice group. Matthews advises lenders on a wide variety of lending and special assets matters, as well as real estate developers in complex title issues and land use regulation.
Matthews' real estate practice includes negotiating and preparing purchase agreements, options, mortgages, leases, easements, deeds, formal written opinions and commercial closings. He regularly represents large financial institutions and privately-owned companies in various creditors' rights arenas, including federal litigation, bankruptcy and foreclosure proceedings. His corporate practice experience includes advising clients on entity formation, acquisitions, liquidations, financing and internal governance. Additionally, he works with personal representatives and trustees in the administration of estates and trusts, and has represented all sides in claims related to breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of loyalty, conversion, undue influence, and testamentary capacity.
Matthews is also a licensed title insurance agent, and is certified by the Alabama Real Estate Commission as a continuing education instructor. Matthews has taught courses to realtors and attorneys in the area of real estate title, foreclosure, residential and commercial leasing and business contracts.
Matthews is a native of Mobile and an active leader in the Mobile community. He serves on the board of directors of the YMCA of South Alabama, Inc., its Finance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. In addition, he is an active member of St. Mary Parish, the Mobile Volunteer Lawyers and the Knights of Columbus.
Matthews earned his undergraduate degree from Spring Hill College (valedictorian), and his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.
