Burr & Forman Partner Authors Article on Immigration and Employment Law
Atlanta, GA. - Burr & Forman LLP is pleased to announce that Atlanta partner Anton Mertens served as a contributing author for the recently published book, "Inside the Minds: Employing International Workers." Mertens authored a chapter on overcoming immigration challenges when hiring international workers, outlining obstacles and best practices for employers seeking to hire international talent. The book, published by Aspatore Books, is available for purchase at www.legalsolutions.thomsonreuters.com.
"The current immigration system poses significant challenges for employers initiating and maintaining the employment of skilled, international workers," said Mertens. "This book offers guidance from some of the most knowledgeable and successful attorneys in the country, and I am pleased to have had the opportunity to contribute."
"Inside the Minds: Employing International Workers" provides an authoritative, insider's perspective on understanding how the state of immigration law is impacting hiring practices. Covering a range of topics from navigating various types of visas to working with government agencies, the book aims to offer guidance on the increasingly challenging process of employing non-U.S. citizens.
At Burr & Forman, Mertens counsels investors, managers, executives and technical personnel with immigration matters, including business and professional visas, labor certifications, immigrant visas, consular representation and citizenship for foreign executives, managers and professionals. He advises employers on compliance procedures regarding work eligibility under I-9 workplace compliance provisions of the federal law. His clients include international companies, technology firms, and U.S. subsidiaries of companies in a range of industries, including communications, technology and engineering, among others.
Mertens is a fellow of The Lawyers Foundation of Georgia and an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association's (AILA) Atlanta Chapter, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce's Global Commerce Council, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, and the State Bar of Georgia's Immigration Law Section, of which he is a former chair.
Mertens earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from Mercer University.
