Burr & Forman Recognized Among Healthiest Employers in Four Markets for 2012
Since the first wellness initiative was implemented at Burr & Forman in 2008, the firm has continued its commitment to healthy living through a variety of programs aimed at physical fitness, nutrition and reducing stress.
"Over 80 percent of our workforce participates in one or more of our wellness programs on an annual basis," said Cathy Ogletree, director of human resources for Burr & Forman. "We offer many programs to meet our employees' different needs, and we try to make them fun, easy, and competitive, where appropriate."
The firm's wellness initiatives include annual biometric health screenings, an online health coaching website, a smoking cessation program, and flu shots to its employees and spouses. To further support healthy living, Burr & Forman offers fruit for purchase in break rooms, cutting-edge fitness devices, and lunch-and-learn education programs with healthy meals.
In addition, the firm's most popular wellness initiative is its annual walking program. Implemented in 2008 and utilized by all offices, the program was created as an easy program for attorneys and staff of all physical capabilities to participate in. Each of Burr & Forman's offices set up teams of employees who keep track of how many miles are collectively walked each week. During the three-month program, teams who reach their mileage goal, are entered to win prizes every three weeks.
These prizes range from small items such as iTunes and restaurant gift cards to larger items such as iPods, XBOX and a $500 gift card.
