Burr & Forman Teams Up With Discover To Lead A Law Day Program At the Midtown Educational Foundation In Chicago
Birmingham, Ala., August 10, 2015 - Burr & Forman LLP recently had the opportunity to team up with Discover to present Law Day program at the Midtown Educational Foundation in Chicago, IL. Birmingham-based Partner, David A. Elliot, and Tampa-based Associate, Jacqueline Simms-Petridis, along with attorneys from Discover, created an appellate argument experience for the Midtown Center summer Law Apprenticeship students.
The students were split up into three groups: defense, prosecution, and justices. Each group studied the case of Wardlow v. Illinois before participating in the appellate argument. The experience utilized the debating skills, courtroom etiquette, and knowledge of the law that the students had been studying throughout the summer. After the appellate argument, the students listened to the audio from the actual argument before the Supreme Court and compared the two.
Elliott spoke on the topic of what he looks for when hiring an attorney and how to be both a good attorney and employee. Other attorney speakers spoke about their experience, education, and career path. The students spoke about the impact that the Midtown Educational Foundation had on their lives.
