Burr & Forman's Lee Thuston Featured in Industry Week on Why Manufactures Choose the Southeast
In an article published by IndustryWeek on Oct. 1, 2015, Lee Thuston offers insights into why the Southeast is attracting manufacturing companies and how the region is managing the shortage of talent to staff the growth. "The issue of talent in this area is very interesting and different from other locations," explains Thuston. "Given that we have had so much success in this region, we have somewhat drained our supply of skilled workers. To solve the issue, manufacturers are collaborating with universities, junior colleges and trade schools." He continues to discuss infrastructure and explains that the region is capable of supporting the continued expansion. "…the Southeast has a large railroad infrastructure. The area is expecting a large influx in all ports due to the increase shipping volume through the Panama Canal and is working to accommodate new traffic. In addition to a strong interstate system and the strength of the Atlanta airport, there is also undeveloped land available to accommodate the expansion." Thuston adds that the region's famous Southern hospitality also makes it a pro-business environment. "What I've been told by some of my clients is that they get a feeling that it's easy to get along with people here. But more importantly they can trust people here. And it turns out that's an important factor in the decision-making process."
