Burr's Amy Jordan Selected as 2013 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Woman of the Year"
Jordan surpassed her campaign goal of $25,000, raising more than $31,000 in honor of her late grandfather, Ralph "Shug" Jordan. Ralph "Shug" Jordan was a former Auburn University head football coach who was diagnosed with leukemia in April 1980 and passed away only three short months later.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a fundraising competition in communities across the U.S. The titles are awarded to the men and women in each community who raise the most funds during the 10-week campaign. The seven candidates participating in this year's Man & Woman of the Year campaign raised more than $153,000.
Burr & Forman has a history with the LLS Man & Woman of the Year campaign. Birmingham and Mobile-based attorneys Heather Lee, Anna Scully and Ricardo Woods are previous nominees, as well as Kristin Parsons who was selected as Woman of the Year in 2011.
The funds raised by Man & Woman of the Year participants are used for lifesaving blood cancer research; financial assistance to cover patient expenses for transportation, medication and testing; free educational materials and events for patients and their families; local programs such as Family Support Groups and First Connection and comprehensive, personalized assistance through the LLS Information Resource Center.
