Mobile Partner Ricardo Woods have been elected to serve on the Alabama State Bar Association’s Diversity & Inclusion in the Profession Committee for the 2020-2021 year.

The Diversity & Inclusion in the Profession Committee is responsible for expanding and enhancing participation, inclusion, and educational and professional opportunities for attorneys of diverse backgrounds within the legal profession. The committee also works towards promoting diversity principles within law school admissions. The Alabama State Bar assists the committee in fulfilling its mission to advance the principles of racial, ethnic, gender, age, and geographic diversity.

The Committee strives to accomplish these goals by developing relationships with other organizations in and outside the Alabama State Bar to increase educational and professional opportunities. The committee also implements the resources provided by the American Bar Association, including a review of model diversity programs offered by other bar associations for use in Alabama. Additionally, the committee works alongside the Young Lawyers Section, The Women’s Section, The Alabama Lawyers Association, and other local minority bar associations to coordinate these efforts.

In addition to serving on the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Ricardo was selected to serve on the Alabama State Bar President’s Council.

At Burr, Ricardo is a defense trial lawyer and practices in Burr and Forman’s Torts and Insurance Practice Group (TIPS) with an emphasis on, product and toxic tort liability, insurance litigation, and government liability. Ricardo serves as the Chief Legal Counsel and City Attorney for the City of Mobile. In his capacity as City Attorney, Ricardo manages the City’s outside counsel at multiple law firms, serves as chief legal adviser to the executive branch of the local government, and serves as the executive director of the City of Mobile’s internal legal department.
