Burr & Forman CEO Ed Christian shared insight on his 2024 expectations for Burr & Forman and the market for legal services in the December 22, 2023, issue of the Birmingham Business Journal as part of its CEO Sit-Down series.

While some anticipate a slowing economy, Christian said the firm is well-positioned for the year ahead and provided perspective on which areas of legal services might be in demand. Litigation has picked up, and work for the corporate and mergers & acquisitions team has remained steady. Similarly, Christian shared that the firm’s real estate practice has remained busy and “had a very good year” despite earlier predictions that the market would slow down in 2023.

Looking ahead, Christian said the firm is looking to continue its strategic recruiting to expand in key practice areas and markets. The firm will look to add attorneys focused on corporate matters, M&A, healthcare, intellectual property, and litigation. It will also look to continue growing in Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, Tampa, Charleston, and Greenville.

The article concluded with a look back at some of the firm’s 2023 accomplishments and how those will benefit the firm going forward. Most recently, the firm announced that former Alabama Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield will join in January 2024 as managing director of economic development, which will offer greater opportunity to regionalize Burr & Forman’s work in this area. Additional 2023 milestones for the firm included achieving Mansfield Rule Certification in 2023, welcoming Gordon Katz as chief information officer, and creating a committee on artificial intelligence.

“I think we are anticipating 2024 to be a good, decent year,” Christian concluded.
