Firm News

Myrtle Beach associate Deidra Byrd and Birmingham associate Miya Moore were recently recognized on 2019 National Black Lawyers “Top 40 Under 40” lists. Byrd was honored on the Top 40 list for South Carolina while Moore was honored on the Top 40 list for Alabama.

The organization’s mission is to celebrate legal excellence by promoting its attorneys as subject-matter experts, developing a strong national network of top African American attorneys, and facilitating the exchange of timely information to enable members to maintain their status as leaders.  Honorees of the award demonstrate superior leadership, reputation, influence, stature and profile as a black lawyer. Only 40 attorneys from each state or region are selected for membership each year.

Miya practices in the firm’s Financial Services Litigation and Immigration practice groups. She earned her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Samford University. While studying at Cumberland School of Law, Miya was a member of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy and Judge James Edwin Horton Inn of Court. Throughout her time at Cumberland, Miya was listed on the Dean’s List, served as a Judge Abraham Caruthers Fellow, and was an active member of the Career Development Advisory Board. She also was awarded as a Scholar of Merit.

Deidra has experience in the financial sector, reviewing documents for litigation relevance and issue coding, executing documents used during foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings, and managing loans while working with internal and external counsel. She has also provided counsel on foreclosures. Before joining the Firm, Deidra served as a judicial clerk for the late Honorable Tanya A. Gee of the 5th Circuit At-Large and the Honorable Benjamin H. Culbertson of the 15th Circuit.
