Overview
A member of Burr Forman’s General Commercial Litigation group, Jake represents corporate clients of all sizes in business disputes at the local, state, and national levels. Jake is also a member of the firm’s Appellate Litigation practice, where he has represented clients in appellate matters in state and federal courts. Jake prides himself on learning his clients’ businesses and industries and applying his legal knowledge and litigation experience to address each client’s unique needs.
Jake is an integral part of the Burr team in handling business tort and contract disputes between clients and their distributors and suppliers, franchisors and franchisees, competitors and former employees, minority shareholders, customers, and current employees. Jake has particular experience defending and prosecuting supply chain disputes on behalf of original equipment manufacturers, tier-1, and tier-2 suppliers.
Jake also represents property owners and owners’ associations in real property disputes, including those relating to boundary lines, timber rights, insurance coverage, real estate sales contracts, and among members and boards of directors. Jake’s experiences in real property litigation include obtaining a six-figure verdict on behalf of a mortgagee as sole trial counsel and obtaining summary judgment on behalf of a property owner that was recently affirmed by the Alabama Supreme Court.
Jake is an alumnus of the McCallie School and the University of Alabama, where he served as fraternity president and as treasurer of JASONS men’s honorary. Jake returned to Alabama for law school, where he graduated summa cum laude. Upon graduation, Jake was inducted into the Order of the Coif and received the M. Leigh Harrison Award.
Jake and his wife Caitlyn live in Mountain Brook with their sons, James and Jackson, and three dogs. The Burchfields are members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and Jake is an avid reader and an aspirational golfer.
