Overview

Joel is an associate in the firm's Real Estate practice group.

Joel's experience includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial real estate documents, drafting letters and memos for clients, and assisting clients in complying with Secretary of State requirements for forming and dissolving business entities.

Before joining Burr, Joel clerked for the Honorable R. Bryan Harwell, where his responsibilities included analyzing pleadings, researching cited precedents, drafting opinions in a multitude of actions to provide the Judge with proposals and suggested orders, and attending trials, motion hearings, oral arguments, etc. to study and discuss the arguments and strategies used by counsel.

Joel received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was the Associate editor-in-chief of the ABA Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Journal, a member of the Student Bar Association, and a pupil in the John Belton O'Neall Inn of Court. While receiving his degree, he worked for a full-service law firm based in South Carolina for two years. Before law school, Joel received his Master of Accounting and his bachelor's degree from Juniata College. While there, he was a football team captain and a finalist for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy.
