Overview

Cade Spivey is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group. Cade’s practice focuses on both commercial and IP litigation. His most notable work includes complex multi-state opioid litigation for one of the nation’s largest retail grocers/pharmacies and construction litigation for the nation’s largest real estate developer. His patent litigation experience includes both plaintiff and defense work for a leading air-to-ground in-flight communications company, market-leading medical device and prosthetics manufacturers, and firearms manufacturers/distributors.

In his prior practice, Cade represented globally positioned insurers and employers before the Department of Labor and Department of Defense. He also represented military, government personnel, and contractors in employment disputes and security clearance adjudications before the Department of Defense, Department of State, and Department of Energy.

Cade obtained his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law, where he was a member of the Veterans Legal Clinic and the Veterans Advocacy Legal Organization.

Prior to law school, Cade served for more than seven years as a Navy Surface Warfare Officer. His tours of duty include service aboard two Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyers (DDGs), where he directly oversaw the maintenance and operation of complex weapon systems; ammunition storage and safety; damage control and emergency repair; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear contamination response; electro-mechanical ventilation systems; antiterrorism; and counter-piracy. Cade also served as Officer of the Deck, Combat Information Center Watch Officer, Engineering Duty Officer, Boarding Officer, and Search and Rescue Swimmer.

Cade obtained his B.S. in History from the United States Naval Academy with a minor in Spanish. Despite his concentration in history, he earned especially high marks in advanced calculus, electrical engineering, statistics, thermodynamics, and ship stability and buoyancy. He was a senior leader of the Brigade Honor Staff, inaugural President of the Honor Congress, and a member of Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society.

Cade also previously worked as a draftsman for his hometown structural steel fabrication company, where notable projects include work for Marathon Oil, Alcoa, Countrymark Cooperative, and the University of West Virginia School of Medicine.

In his free time, Cade enjoys open water swims, playing darts, unnecessarily long walks with his dog Jim, exploring local breweries, and he is a self-described “skilled but amateur” carpenter. He has volunteered as a mentor with the Duval County Veterans Treatment Court since 2021 and is a founding sponsor and contributor for the Jacksonville Business Wellness Symposium.
