Overview

Jarrett Bouchette is a member of the firm's General Commercial Litigation Practice Group. His litigation experience includes a wide range high stakes civil and criminal matters. During the course of his career he has tried cases before judges and juries involving subjects as diverse as breach of contract and unfair trade practices to criminal domestic violence and murder. Some of Jarrett’s cases have been the subject of statewide, national, and even international media attention. His clients have included corporations, successful businesspeople, governmental entities, as well as indigent defendants in both State and Federal Court.

Today, Jarrett’s practice is focused primarily on commercial and business litigation, litigation in the Probate Court involving trusts, estates, and fiduciaries, and complex criminal defense in State and Federal Court. Additionally, Jarrett represents licensed professionals such as nurses and contractors in disciplinary proceeding before licensing boards such as the South Carolina Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation (LLR).

Jarrett is active in the legal community. He has published articles on civil procedure and substantive criminal law. He previously served as a board member for the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers representing the 15th judicial circuit, and is a founding member of that organization’s educational foundation. He is a 2023 graduate of the National Criminal Defense College, a multi-week intensive program designed to enhance participating attorneys’ trial skills. In 2024 Jarrett was recognized as a “Legal Elite” among South Carolina attorneys in the category of White Collar criminal defense.

Experience

  • Successfully argued for multi-level departure from the federal sentencing guidelines resulting in a sentence of less than half the recommended prison term.
  • Obtained global settlement in excess of $1,000,000 for client involved in serious auto accident.
  • Successfully tried case seeking damages in fast track summary jury trial. Obtained verdict for actual as well as punitive damages.
  • Won complete defense verdict for contractor accused of defective construction in State Court jury trial.
  • Successfully tried case before jury that awarded our client damages for misrepresentations during the sale of a business.
  • Obtained a not guilty verdict for our client charged with criminal domestic violence.
