Overview

Taylor Johnson focuses her practice on complex business and insurance litigation, and financial services litigation. Taylor has extensive experience successfully representing businesses and individuals, at all stages of litigation, in both federal and state courts.

In addition to her trial practice, Taylor has successfully litigated numerous appeals in both the state and federal appellate courts in a wide range of cases. Her experience includes litigating appeals involving claims of retaliatory discharge, fraud, contract disputes, financial services and banking disputes, municipal liability, and personal injury torts. Her recent appellate success stories include reversals (and affirmances) of a number of multi-million dollar verdicts in the Alabama Supreme Court. She currently serves on the Steering Committee for the Defense Research Institute (DRI) Appellate Advocacy group and frequently speaks and writes on appellate topics. Prior to joining Burr & Forman, Taylor worked as a Judicial Clerk for The Honorable Sonja F. Bivins, United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

Taylor is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and received her J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law, where she served as a Senior Editor of the Alabama Law Review. In addition she was a member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board, Jessup International Law Moot Court Team, and Bench & Bar Legal Honor Society. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University.

Taylor is a member of several professional and civic organizations in Mobile including the Mobile Bar Association (Federal Courts section), Distinguished Young Women-Young Alliance, and The Fuse Project. She also enjoys performing with the Mobile Opera Chorus and local musical theater companies in her spare time.

Experience

  • Appellant's counsel on reversal of 3.5 million dollar jury verdict arising from wrongful termination claim.
  • Appellant's counsel on reversal of 12 million dollar bench verdict arising from fraud claims against banking client in conjunction with alleged oral contract.
  • Represented Owner in lawsuit involving 12 million dollars sought for impact and delay claims. Case resolved favorably after partial summary judgment obtained early in the litigation.
  • Represented Municipality obtaining multiple dismissals on Section 1983 based claims.
  • Obtained summary judgment (affirmed on appeal) for bank on breach of contract, negligence, and wantonness claims associated with a vehicle loan.
  • Successfully obtained dismissals on claims arising under the TCPA, FDCPA, FCRA, TILA, and RESPA in federal court.
  • Appellant's counsel on reversal of 2.5 million dollar jury verdict arising from wrongful death verdict against contractor.
  • Appellees' counsel affirming 5 million dollar verdict arising from fraud claims brought by seven companies in the timber industry.
  • Appellant's counsel affirming summary judgment in municipal liability equal protection suit concerning the enforcement of land-use regulations.
