“The US is Attacking Huawei and China – Without its Own 5G Strategy,” CNBC
In an article published on April 21 in CNBC, Bill Lawrence weighs in on the United States’ 5G strategy and how it compares to that of China’s.
President Donald Trump has introduced initiatives to speed up the rollout of new wireless networks across the U.S. in an effort for America to win the “race” to 5G, as the United States and China compete to build out high-speed 5G networks.
5G is designed to bring faster speeds and lower lag times than previous wireless networks like 4G and 3G. While much has been said about how the networks will give consumers faster downloads of videos or games, 5G is perhaps, more importantly, a potential game-changer for functions such as driverless cars or remote surgery that require quick, reliable internet connections.
Some experts say the U.S. still lacks a clear 5G strategy that surpasses Huawei’s efforts to claim victory, but the President is working toward building 5G networks across the country – perhaps with the help of the private sector.
Lawrence recognizes that China may have come out of the starting blocks surrounding 5G, but emphasizes, “At the end of the day, the U.S. is trying to outpace China for the lead.”
