Overview
Chris Meyer is a partner in the firm’s Jackson, MS Office where he represents student athletes, businesses and universities in connection with marketing and endorsement agreements under NCAA and state name, image and likeness regulations. He focuses his practice on dispute resolution and complex civil litigation matters. As the student hiring partner for the firm’s Jackson office, he is experienced working with students at the collegiate level and understanding their long-term goals. Additionally, while obtaining his Masters in Sports Administration, Chris worked in a Southeastern Conference athletic department, giving him a unique perspective on college athletics.
Beyond his practice in sports and entertainment, he counsels clients in the areas of construction, commercial, real estate, financial services, and transportation. He represents clients at the trial level and on appeal in jurisdictions throughout the Southeast.
Construction and Project Development: Chris represents clients throughout the construction industry, including owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. He also represents manufacturers in product liability claims on construction projects. His experience in the construction area includes actions concerning breaches of construction contracts, construction defects, warranty claims, lien foreclosures, public bid protests, nonpayment, and general liability insurance coverage issues. Chris has litigated matters involving projects such as highways, public schools, stadiums and arenas, industrial manufacturing facilities, retail facilities, condominiums, apartment complexes, and subdivision developments.
Financial Services and Real Estate: Chris has extensive experience litigating consumer finance cases on behalf of banking and finance clients. He has routinely handled cases involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and various state and federal consumer protection statutes. He also represents title insurers, insured lenders, and insured owners in litigation and claims arising from real estate transactions.
Representative matters include the curing of title defects, litigating cases involving adverse possession claims, eminent domain proceedings, and estate proceedings, and defending insurers in coverage disputes and against bad faith actions. Chris’s real estate experience also includes the representation of paper and packaging manufacturers in actions alleging timber theft and related causes of action.
Labor and Employment: Chris has experience representing businesses and their management in litigation alleging wrongful termination, as well as violation of the Family Medical Leave Act, violation of the American with Disabilities Act, and violation of 42 U.S.C. 1981, alleging race discrimination.
Transportation: Chris represents railroads and parties involved in the shipping industry in actions concerning property damage, personal injury, toxic exposure, and environmental claims.
